Bibb County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies responded to the Sharks Fish and Chicken Restaurant at 3485 Mercer University Drive just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday night in reference to a female leaving a very small juvenile male in the parking lot.

It was reported that an employee of the restaurant saw what looked to be a dark colored Honda pull into the parking lot. A black female got out of the driver’s side, opened the rear passenger door and appeared to get something out of the car. The black female got back into the car and sped away. As the manager was coming in the employee met the manager outside and told him what she saw. They heard a crying noise coming from the bushes in the parking lot. When they went to investigate they saw the little boy crying. He immediately came to them.

Two black females came pulling up into the parking lot about 1 hour after deputies had been at the scene. One female was saying the little boy was her baby. She was identified as 23 year old Kalandra Hightower, of Macon. Hightower was detained for questioning. Bibb Sheriff’s Juvenile Investigators and Department of Family and Children Services case workers were at the scene also.

Hightower was arrested and charged with cruelty to children. She was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Complex. She has a bond of $8,450.00. The 2 year old boy was placed into the care of the grandmother.

This incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information in reference to this incident is urged to contact the Bibb Sheriff’s Office at 478-751 -7500 and ask to leave a message for the on-call juvenile investigator or Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
