The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded to an assistance call from the Mercer University Police Department in reference to a male suspect running through the school’s campus with a handgun. Mercer Police Officers stated that two male suspects entered the campus property and attempted to rob a student at gun point.  Mercer Police located and arrested one of the young male suspects, the other suspect, who was armed with a handgun, fled through the campus on foot.

Bibb Sheriff’s patrol deputies responded to the assistance call, set up a perimeter around the area where the suspect was last seen and other deputies began to search the campus for the second suspect. Bibb Sheriff’s Patrol/ K-9 Deputy Justin Leese located the suspect hiding behind loading dock, at Mercer’s Dining Hall.  The suspect was taken into custody by Deputy Leese and then turned over to the Mercer Police Department. Bibb Sheriff’s Deputies also located a small handgun that was hidden under some pine straw, near the location of where the second suspect was located. The handgun was also turned over to the Mercer Police Department.
