Animal Cruelty Investigation in West Bibb

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office along with the Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare Department is investigating a case of Animal Cruelty that happened at 3541 Log Cabin Drive just after 10:38am today.

The Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare Department was contacted by the new property manager of 3541 Log Cabin Dr. The manager advised that the tenant was evicted in November of 2015 and left behind several dogs at the home. It was reported that tenant, who was identified as 39 year old Martin Luther King, continued to tell the manager he would remove the dogs but never did.  During the process Director Sonja Adams found a large number of malnourished and injured dogs. She contacted the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

When Deputies arrived it was determined that all the animals needed to be removed from the home due to the extremely dangerous and deplorable living conditions the animals were in. There were eleven animals at the residence. They were removed and taken to the county vet to be checked for injuries and diseases. Deputies arrested King for 11 counts of Felony Animal Cruelty and 1 count of dog fighting. King was taken to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 and ask to leave a message for the on-call Property Investigator, or call the Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.

Director Adams with Macon-Bibb Animal Control wanted everyone to understand that they not only handle cases with dogs and cats, but they also will respond to any animal cruelty case, and would like for anyone who sees a case of animal abuse or cruelty to contact the Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare Department at 478-621-6791.
