The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident involving a tractor trailer, carrying liquid nitrogen and a Honda Accord.
At around 9:10a.m., Bibb Deputies were called to Interstate 75, southbound, at its intersection with the Rocky Creek Road exit. It was reported that the driver of a tractor trailer, carrying liquid nitrogen, was attempting to merge from the middle lane to the right lane. The tractor trailer struck a Honda Accord as it began to merge. The driver of the tractor trailer then veered to the left, striking the concrete wall. After the tractor trailer collided with the wall, it began to roll onto its side. The tractor trailer rolled onto the same Honda Accord that was involved in the first collision.
The drivers of both vehicles were transported to the Navicent and are reported to be in stable condition at this time. The drivers of both vehicles were the only occupants of each vehicle.
Traffic was temporarily diverted from interstate 75 south to the Eisenhower/U.S. 80 off ramp. The Macon-Bibb Fire Department’s Hazmat team also responded to the scene as a precautionary measure, due to the contents of the tractor trailer.
The south bound lanes on interstate 75 south reopened after 11:00 a.m. This accident is under investigation.
