Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputy Johnny Rowe stopped a vehicle Friday morning just before 7:30 a.m. near 5013 Harrison Road. The deputy had information that the owner of the vehicle was wanted on an arrest warrant from Jones County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the vehicle ran from the vehicle after being stopped. Deputy Rowe chased the driver on foot that was later identified as 48 year old Bobby Gene Swearingen of Macon.
Deputy Rowe caught Swearingen and attempted to detain him. Swearingen attempted to take the deputies Taser. The deputy struggled with Swearingen to keep him from taking his Taser and affect an arrest. Swearingen broke free and continued to run. He was caught a short time after by other Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies that were responding to assist Deputy Rowe who was injured while struggling with Swearingen.
Bobby Swearingen is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Simple Battery against a Law Enforcement Officer, Willful Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Interfering With Government Property. Swearingen also has a hold for the Jones County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant. Deputy Rowe was treated for injuries he sustained in the incident and has been released from the hospital.
