The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit received information during the continued investigation of the Vernard Mays homicide that led them to believe that murder suspect Curtis Dewayne Jackson Jr. was possibly in Killeen Texas. The tip came through Macon Regional Crimestoppers.  On Saturday, January 30, 2016 Investigators contacted the Killeen Police Department to advise them of the murder warrant for Jackson and to also let them know he was possibly in the Killeen area.

Investigators from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Gang Unit received information just before 2:00PM Sunday that Jackson had been picked up on the murder warrant by the Killeen Police Department’s Special Investigations Division. He was transported to the Killeen City Jail where he is awaiting extradition back to Macon.

Bibb Sheriff David Davis said, “Our investigators were relentless in pursuing leads on this case and we are thankful to the Killeen officers who helped bring this case to fruition. We are also grateful to the tipster who called CrimeStoppers to provide useful information. Vernard is missed every day and we hope this arrest helps bring some more closure to his family and coworkers.”
