The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic accident involving two tractor trailer trucks that occurred at around 8:57a.m., Thursday. It was reported that a 2007 Western Star Tractor Trailer, driven by Eric Smith of Sparta Georgia and a 2015 Freightliner, driven by Homer Walls of Eatonton, were both making a left turns from the off ramp of Interstate 16, onto Spring Street. Mr. Smith was travelling in the left turning lane and Mr. Wall’s was travelling in the right turning lane of the off ramp.
Mr. Smith was hauling around 23,000 lbs. of agricultural “lime dust” in his trailer. As he entered the turn, under the Interstate 16/Spring Street overpass, the load shifted, causing the tractor trailer to tip over onto its side. As the trailer began to roll over, it hit Mr. Wall’s tractor pushing it into the median retainer wall.
No one was injured during this incident.
Traffic was diverted away from the accident scene until the accident was cleared. All lanes of travel were reopened and the accident scene was cleared by 10:59a.m.
