Bibb County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies arrest an armed robbery suspect and are still looking for a second suspect from an incident that occurred on 3rd Street Lane at Cherry Street, around 11:00pm. Tuesday night. It was reported that a 26 year old male was approached by two male suspects as he was walking in an alley after leaving a downtown bar. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded money and the victim’s personal cellphone. After the victim stated that he did not have any money, the suspects attempted to force him to walk to a ATM. The victim stated that he did he did not have any money in the bank. The suspects took the victim’s cellphone and fled towards Popular Street. The victim went to another local bar and called the Bibb Sheriff’s Office. The victim was not harmed during this incident. Bibb Sheriff Patrol Deputies began to canvass the downtown area in an attempt to locate the two suspects. One of the deputies made contact with officers from the Medical Center Police Department. The officer stated that the suspects were possibly seen running towards Orange Street. Patrol deputies went to the area that the suspects were last seen. Deputies located the suspects in the area of College Street, near the hospital. After a short foot pursuit, deputies apprehended one of the suspects. The second suspect fled the area and is being sought in connection to this incident. The victim’s cellphone and a handgun were recovered when the first suspect was apprehended. Willie Mitchell Jr., age 32 from Macon was charged with Armed Robbery, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony and Probation Violation Superior Court. Mitchell is currently being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center without bond. The second suspect is described as a black male suspect wearing dark clothing. Additional information on that suspect will be released as it becomes available. This incident is under investigation.
