The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident involving a pedestrian that took place in the 1700 block of Canterbury Road at around 11:00a.m., Wednesday morning. It was reported that 25 year old Tristan Henry of Macon was walking east on Canterbury Road, against the flow of traffic. A witness reported that Henry was looking down at his cellphone while walking.  A 2002 Ford Taurus, driven by 18 year old Janell Janae Smith-Showers was  traveling west on Canterbury Road. Smith-Showers attempted to pass Henry on the left, but a vehicle was approaching from the opposite direction.  Smith-Shower’s was unable to pass and her front right fender of the Ford Taurus hit Henry, throwing him onto the hood and then onto the windshield.

Smith-Showers then made a left turn into the rear entrance of Southwest High school. The vehicle traveled over 1100 feet before hitting a curb, where the vehicle finally stopped. Smith-Showers stated that her brakes malfunctioned.

Henry was transported to a local hospital where he was later discharged. Smith-Showers was cited for Leaving the Scene of an Accident and No Proof of Insurance.
