Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputy Sgt. Campbell was conducting business checks when he discovered a burglary in progress at 3465 Mercer University Drive, the Quick Serve gas station just before 3:00 a.m. this morning. It was reported that a side door to the unoccupied business was open. Sgt. Campbell asked for backup to conduct a search of the business because the business is closed with no electricity but still contained merchandise. The business had recently been burglarized January 14, 2015 due to its closure in December of 2014.  It was reported that when Sgt. Campbell entered the business he encountered 46 year-old Marvin Causey of Macon. A physical altercation ensued and Marvin Causey was shot by Sgt. Campbell.

Marvin Causey was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he is undergoing surgery for the injury. Sgt. Campbell was also transported to the hospital for injuries to his back that he sustained from the struggle with Causey.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident. Sgt. Campbell will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
