Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators, with the assistance of the Gang Unit, and SRT Unit, arrested a Macon man in connection to the death of 38-year-old Calvin Thomas Hugley Jr.. This incident occurred on August 19, 2023.
Investigators were able to connect 24-year-old Dequavia Pollard to the shooting death of Calvin Thomas Hugley Jr. Pollard was taken into custody without incident just before 2:00 p.m. Friday and was transported to the Bibb County jail where he is being held without bond. In this case, Pollard is being held on charges of Murder and six counts of aggravated assault.

Death Investigation on Woodard Avenue
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the 800 block of Woodard Avenue just after 3:00 a.m. Saturday.
Deputies responded to the intersection of Woodard Avenue and Carnation Street regarding reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, they located a male subject unresponsive in the roadway. The male, later identified as Calvin Thomas Hugley Jr., was pronounced deceased on the scene. According to Deputy Coroner Ronnie Miley, the next of kin has been notified.
It was reported that a large gathering of people was at 834 Woodard Avenue, which was discovered to be a “bootleg”. It was reported that several people had a disagreement and gunfire began to be exchanged. Two females and one male were transported to the hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. They are listed in stable condition.
Investigators are working to determine what led up to the incident.
