Stolen AR-15 Rifle Recovered

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputies recovered a stolen AR-15 rifle while investigating a minibike violation.

On April 19, 2023, at 1:37 p.m., a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputy was on patrol in the Mumford Road area. A young male crossed the road while driving a minibike at the Napier Avenue intersection as the deputy was approaching. The male was not wearing a helmet.

The deputy initiated a traffic stop to investigate, but the driver of the minibike refused to stop. The male driver drove his minibike in the backyard of a Mumford Road residence. The deputy pursued the individual behind the home on foot. The deputy then saw the male pleading with the resident who was inside their home. The resident did not know the individual. The individual then fled on foot. The minibike was found in the backyard; a bookbag was next to it. A rifle stock was protruding from the bag. Inside the bag, the deputy discovered an AR-15 rifle that was reported stolen in March, from an entering auto incident. Other items included an undisclosed amount of cash, drugs (suspected to be crack-cocaine and methamphetamines), and a digital scale. The minibike’s serial number was scratched off.

The minibike was removed from the property. The stolen weapon, cash, drugs, and paraphernalia were all recovered and turned over to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab.

The individual was described as a young black male, five foot six to five foot seven in height, his skin is of brown complexion, he wears large plats hanging from his head. The suspect wore a large tan oversized coat and skinny denim jeans.

This case is still under investigation.
