Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators charged an individual in the death investigation of Troy Eric Sandifer. The incident occurred on January 10, 2022, in the 3100 block of Columbus Road.
It was reported that on April 13, 2022, Denzel Cortez Rutledge, age 26, was taken into custody by investigators in connection with an Aggravated Assault that occurred on Adams Street, in March of this year.
While Rutledge was in jail for the Aggravated Assault, investigators gathered evidence and identified Rutledge in connection with Troy Sandifer’s death investigation. Investigators served Rutledge with a Murder warrant while he was in jail. Rutledge will remain in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center for the charges of Murder and Aggravated Assault. Rutledge also has a hold from Houston County. Rutledge does not have a bond.

Death Investigation on Columbus Road
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a person that was fatally shot in the 3100 block of Columbus Road. The incident was called into the Macon-Bibb 911 Center at 4:18 a.m. on Monday.
Deputies were called to the scene in reference to a person down. Upon further examination, deputies and investigators found that an individual was reported to have been shot and was found to be deceased.
The name of the deceased is 52-year-old Troy Eric Sandifer. According to Deputy Coroner Miley, the next of kin has been notified.
Investigators are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. Additional information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
