According to Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones, the body that was found in a wooded area off Sheridan Avenue was identified as that of 78-year-old James Dumas.

On January 26, 2022, it was reported that human remains were located and taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Coroner Jones stated he received information on Monday that a pacemaker identification number confirmed that the body was identified as 78-year-old James Dumas of Macon. Dumas was reported missing back in December. According to Coroner Jones, the next of kin has been notified.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is Investigating Dead Body Found in Wooded area off Sheridan Avenue

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a dead body that was located in a wooded area, in the 1900 block of Sheridan Avenue.

The remains were found by a WMAZ employee at around 1:00 p.m. The employee of the news outlet was reported to have been in the area searching for a missing person from December, 78-year-old James Dumas.

The deceased remains will be sent to the G.B.I. Crime Lab , where an autopsy will be conducted. The autopsy will assist in help determining the identity of the deceased and the cause of death.  Additional information into this investigation will be released as soon as it becomes available.
