The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that took place on Mercer University Drive, near Edna Place. The incident was called into the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at around 4:30 p.m.
It was reported that an altercation took place between individuals in the roadway on Mercer University Drive. During the altercation one of the individuals was shot several times. The wounded male returned to his vehicle and drove down the roadway, and wrecked his vehicle before stopping in an empty parking lot at the end of Edna Place.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the male, 37-year-old Jarvis Kentral Ottman to the Atrium Health Navicent for treatment of his gunshot wounds. According to Coroner Leon Jones, Ottman was pronounced deceased at the hospital and the next of kin has been notified.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated and possible witnesses are being interviewed by investigators.
