Bibb County Sheriff’s Investigators have warrants issued for a suspect in connection with two separate shooting incidents that occurred on October 10, 2021.

At the beginning of the week, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators spoke with Investigators from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office in reference to an arrest of a male that is being accused in connection with a Homicide  that occurred in Augusta, Georgia. The accused individual,  34-year-old De Quin Ja ’Nile Hamlin, was also a person of interest in two separate investigations that happened in Bibb County on October 10, 2021.  

Friday afternoon, Investigators met with the Bibb County District Attorney’s Office about the two Bibb County incidents. After consulting with the District Attorney’s Office,  Investigators met with the Magistrate Judge and had warrants issued for the arrest of De Quin Ja’Nile Hamlin.  

De Quin Hamlin is being charged in connection with the death of 46-year-old Percy Welch Jr. and with the shooting of two victims, 37-year-old Tavares Devon Lavender and 38-year-old Althonio Leon Carlisle.  This incident took place on Cherry Avenue on October 10, 2021 at around 9:48p.m. Both Lavender and Carlisle were treated for their injuries and have been released from the hospital.

Hamlin is also being charged in connection with a separate aggravated assault investigation. This incident occurred at around 11:38p.m., almost two hours after the Cherry Avenue incident.  it was reported that 37-year-old Kevin Jantae Watson was shot on Napier Avenue, near PioNono Avenue. Watson was transported to the Atrium Health Navicent for treatment of his injuries. He remains at the hospital and is listed to be in critical, but stable condition.

Investigators have warrants for De Quin Ja’nile Hamlin for the charges of Homicide and three counts of Aggravated Assault. Hamlin is currently in jail at the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, afterwards he will face charges in Bibb County.

Homicide Investigation at Cherry Avenue

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office was notified that 46-year-old Percy Welch Jr., of Macon, was pronounced deceased at Atrium Health Navicent hospital.

Welch passed away from injuries he received during a shooting incident at Cherry Avenue on October 11, 2021.  According to Chief Coroner Leon Jones, the next of kin has been notified.

Aggravated Assault Investigation

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an Aggravated Assault that occurred at the 3800 block of Cherry Avenue, at around 9:48 p.m. on October 10, 2021, Sunday night.

It was reported that 3 individuals were shot while in the backyard of a residence on Cherry Avenue. They were transported to Atrium Health Navicent by Ambulance.

The first victim is 46-year-old Percy Welch Jr. He is listed in critical condition.

The second victim is 37-year-old Tavares Devon Lavender. He is listed in stable condition.

The third victim is 38-year-old Althonio Leon Carlisle. He is also listed in stable condition.

The circumstances surrounding what led up to the incident is under investigation.

Aggravated Assault Investigation on Napier Avenue

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an Aggravated Assault that occurred on Napier Avenue, just before its intersection with Pio Nono Avenue, at around 11:38 p.m. October 10, 2021.

According to deputies, 37-year-old Kevin Jantae Watson, was found unresponsive on the roadway beside his vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Atrium Health Navicent and is listed in critical condition.

The circumstances around what led up to the shooting is currently under investigation. More information will be released as it comes available.
