Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested a Macon man in regards to the shooting of a toddler at 4416 Mumford Road.

Investigators detained 22-year-old Kendarius Leshawn Grimes, of Macon, during the investigation of the shooting. It was determined that the firearm the two-year-old toddler found and shot herself with, was in the possession of Grimes. It was discovered that the gun was reported stolen in July of 2020.

Grimes was transported to the Investigations Office for questioning. After questioning Grimes was transported to the Bibb County jail and charged with Cruelty to Children 2nd Degree, and Theft by Receiving. He is being held on $12,500.00 bond at this time. This incident is still under investigation.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Toddler Shooting

Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigators are investigating the shooting of a two-year-old at 4416 Mumford Road, Kingston Garden Apartments, at 3:31 p.m.

It was reported that a during a Christmas gathering, a two-year-old female found a firearm and was playing with the gun. During this time the gun went off and the toddler was struck in the head. The baby was taken to the Navicent Health Medical Center for treatment. No one else was injured during the incident. The child is listed in critical condition at this time.

This incident is in the early stages of the investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
