Bibb County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 43-year-old James Michael Simmons, of Macon, for multiple felony warrants after a short pursuit.

At 12:46 p.m., deputies were called to an address in the 600 block of Shi Place regarding a domestic dispute with damage to property. While deputies were talking to witnesses a gold Honda Accord drove by and deputies were informed that the suspect was inside the vehicle. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, later identified as James Michael Simmons, failed to stop and led deputies on a brief pursuit. Deputies pursued the vehicle north on Broadway/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. When Simmons got to the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Poplar Street intersection, there was a Ford Transit Van parked in a parking spot and a Chrysler 300 stopped at the traffic light. Simmons tried to drive between them, but struck both vehicles causing damage to them.

Simmons then made a right turn onto Poplar Street and continued to Lower Poplar Street where he came to a stop on the railroad tracks at the back entrance to Central City Park. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle with deputies.

Simmons was taken to the Navicent Health Medical Center by deputies for treatment of minor injuries. Simmons is being charged with Felony Fleeing and Eluding Peace Officers, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, and multiple traffic violations. Simmons also has a warrant for Felony Obstruction of a Peace Officer and Superior Court Probation Violation.

Simmons has warrants out of both Jones and Twiggs County Sheriff’s Offices. He will be taken to the Bibb County Jail for his charges, once he is cleared by medical personal.
