The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic collision that occurred just after 12:30 a.m. on Broadway at Houston Road.

It was reported that a vehicle was traveling south on Broadway when it went through the grass median onto Houston Road and struck a Freightliner tractor trailer, in the northbound lane of Houston Road, that was stopped at the traffic light. The tractor trailer was pushed into a Chevy Impala that was stopped beside it at the light. The first vehicle caught fire and both the driver and passenger were unable to get out. 

According to Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley, the driver was identified as 61-year-old Kenneth David Lawrence, of Warner Robins, and the passenger was identified as 56-year-old Michael Wayne Vandergriff, of Warner Robins. They were both pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer, a 57-year-old of Sumter S.C., was treated and released on scene. The driver of the Chevy Impala, a 54-year-old male of Macon GA, was taken to the Atrium Health Navicent and is listed in stable condition at this time. No one else was injured during the incident.

The next of kin have been notified.
