The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at 3580 Fair Street. The incident was called in to the Macon-Bibb 911 Center at around 12:20 a.m. Friday morning.
Witnesses stated that two men were in an altercation when a third male approached and brandished a handgun. The third male began to fire shots, striking both men.
The first victim, 60-year-old Stacey Van Battle, died at the scene. The second victim, 49-year-old Derrick Howard, was transported to the Navicent, where he was later pronounced dead. The next of kin has been notified by the Coroner’s Office.
Investigators arrested 23-year-old Anthony Toraild Whitehead, in connection to the fatal shooting deaths of Derrick Howard and Stacey Van Battle. Whitehead was transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Center and charged with (x2) counts of Murder. He also had a separate charge of Probation Violation of State Court. Whitehead is currently being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center, without bond.
