The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident, involving a pedestrian that occurred in the parking lot of the Tom’s Mart, located at 4381 Mercer University Drive. The accident was reported to the Macon-Bibb 911 Center at around 9:26 p.m.
Witnesses stated that 65-year-old Robert Leo Williams from Macon was riding with two other individuals to the Tom’s Mart. The driver of the vehicle stopped in the parking lot. Williams got out of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle decided to pull into a parking space. Williams thought that the driver was leaving him behind. As the driver pulled forward, Williams ran back towards the vehicle, attempted to open the rear door, stumbled, and then fell under the vehicle. The vehicle rolled over Williams. Robert Leo Williams was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
This accident is under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. There are no charges pending at this time.
According to the Coroner’s office, the next of kin has been notified.
