Bibb County Sheriff Deputies, the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services were called to the new bridge construction area, located just off of Spring Street in reference to a report of a construction working falling from the bridge. The new construction area runs parallel to Interstate 16 east. It was reported that 44-year-old Jason Searcy, of Gordon, fell as he was walking across the metal decking that was located on top of the bridge. The decking gave way and Searcy fell approximately 30 feet, onto a concrete drainage ditch.
The incident occurred at around 1:00 pm September 6, 2019.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones advised that 44-year-old Jason Searcy passed away today.
