The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a collision with serious injury that occurred on Interstate 16 near the Spring Street exit ramp. The collision took place at 1:57 p.m. on Monday.

It was reported that a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado got onto Interstate 16, headed in the wrong direction, from the Spring Street exit ramp. The Chevrolet Silverado, traveled westward and collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu that was traveling east on Interstate 16.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, 41-year-old John Jones of Macon,  was transported to the Atrium Health Navicent by ambulance. He remains to be listed to be in critical condition.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, 41-year-old Jenna Beth Scheidegger of Dawsonville, Georgia, was reported to be uninjured. Scheidegger was transported to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, where she is being held without bond for the charges of Serious Injury by Motor Vehicle, Motor/Traffic Offense, Driving Under the Influence, and Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers-misdemeanor.

Interstate 16 (east), was closed while law enforcement conducted an on scene investigation into the collision and it was reopened around 3:30 p.m. , Monday.

This collision is still under investigation.

Collision with Serious Injury on Interstate 16

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of a collision with serious injury that occurred on Interstate 16 near the Spring Street exit ramp. The collision took place at 1:57 p.m.

It was reported that a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado got onto Interstate 16, headed in the wrong direction, from the Spring Street exit ramp. The driver of the Chevrolet began to travel westward, in an east bound lane. The Chevrolet Silverado collided with a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu that was headed east on Interstate 16.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu was transported to the Atrium Health Navicent by ambulance. He is currently listed to be in critical condition. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was reported to be uninjured. The names of both drivers will not be released at this time.

Interstate 16, (east), was closed while law enforcement conducted an on scene investigation into this collision, and it was reopened at around 3:30 p.m., Monday afternoon.  This collision is still under investigation. Charges are pending further investigation into this collision.
