The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic accident with injuries that occurred on Vineville Avenue at Pio Nono Avenue just before 06:00pm Tuesday evening. It was reported that a Black Ford Expedition, driven by Samuel Fields Jr. of Macon, was traveling South on Pierce Ave. Fields crossed over the center line and then struck a brown Honda CRV, driven by 33yr old David Dantes of Athens, that was turning onto Pierce from Vineville Ave. Fields vehicle then went onto the curb in front of Vineville Baptist and struck a Traffic Light pole knocking it down. His vehicle then struck a fire Hydrant knocking it into the roadway.

A Mitsubishi Fuso, driven by 47yr old George Kitchens of Macon, ran over the fire hydrant. Fields vehicle continued on and struck a Chevy Silverado that was traveling west on Vineville Ave, driven by Rahim McCarley of Hampton GA. Fields vehicle came to rest on the south corner of Vineville Ave and Pio Nono Ave. The only injuries were complaint by Fields and his passenger who were taken to Navicent Health to be checked out. Fields was issued a citation for reckless driving.

Vineville Ave. at the intersection of Pierce Ave and Pio Nono Ave is without any traffic signal lights. Some of the multi-direction lane lights on Vineville Ave were also affected.  The Sheriff’s Office is asking that everyone avoid the area until the damage to the Traffic Signal system can be repaired. At this time it is estimated to take between four to eight hours before the area is cleared and everything is working.
