Just before 10:30 a.m. today Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators along with Marshals from the South East Regional Fugitive Task Force captured 27-year-old Telvin Vashun Smith, of Macon.

On May 9, 2019, Telvin was able to manipulate the van’s door lock mechanism that he was being transported in and opened the door, he ran from the scene and was able to get away from deputies.

Investigators were able to track Smith to a hotel off Eisenhower Parkway near I475. While on the way to the location Smith was spotted walking on Eisenhower Parkway at the I475 overpass. Investigators were able to take Smith into custody without incident.

Smith was taken to the Bibb County Jail on warrants for Battery Family Violence, two counts of Criminal Trespass, two counts of Cruelty to Children, Criminal Damage to Property, Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon, Escape and Probation Violation. He is being held without bond at this time.

Smith’s girlfriend 23-year-old Alexus Tasharah Smith, of Macon, was helping hide Telvin from the police. She was taken into custody and transported to the Bibb County Jail.  Alexus was charged with Hindering Apprehension or Punishment of Criminal, she is being without bond at this time.

Seeking the Public’s Assistance in Locating Suspect Who Fled during Transport

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect who fled a patrol van while being transported the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.

A Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputy was transporting 27-year-old Telvin Vashun Smith to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Smith was being transported, after being picked up for a Violation of Probation charge.

During the transport, Smith was able to slide his handcuffed hands from the back of his body, to the front of his body. He then manipulated the van’s door lock mechanism, opened the door, and ran.  Smith was last seen running in the area of Second Street and Pebble Street.

Telvin Smith was wearing a grey colored “tank top” shirt and black in color, “meshed styled” shorts. Smith is around 5 feet 7 inches in height and weighs approximately 160 lbs. He is a black male with a “low afro” hair style.

Bibb County Sheriff’s Deputies with the assistance from several other agencies, are in the area attempting to locate Smith.
