Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies were conducting speed enforcement on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when they witnessed a Honda Accord going 60 mph in the 30 mph zone. This happened near the intersection of Hazel Street at 11:37 a.m.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and attempted to make contact with the driver, 24-year-old Eric Bruce Haynes Jr. of Macon. Haynes pulled into a parking lot of 1194 MLK, ABC Liquor Store, exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Deputies were able to detain Haynes after a short chase and struggle where Haynes was tased by deputies.

Deputies located a large bag of Marijuana in the vehicle along with a smaller bag containing Ecstasy pills and a digital scale. The Marijuana was approximately sixteen and a half ounces and there were twelve Ecstasy pills.

Haynes was taken to the Bibb County Jail and charged with Possession of Schedule I Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Obstruction of a Peace Officer, Speeding and Violation of Conditions of Limited Permit (Lerner Permit). He is being held without bond at this time.
