On July 17, 2019, just after 10:00 p.m. Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were patrolling the area of Antioch Road and Heard Avenue when they witnessed a moped with two riders fail to stop at the stop sign and neither rider had on helmets.  Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle would not stop.

The suspects fled from deputies into Pendleton Homes at 3401 Houston Avenue. After a short foot chase, both suspects were taken into custody. The driver was identified as 19-year-old Marcus Ervin Hopkins Jr., of Macon. The passenger was identified at 17-year-old Marcus Dion Rivers Jr., of Macon.

Rivers was taken to the Bibb County Jail and charged with Felony Fleeing and Eluding Peace Officers, Obstruction of Peace Officer, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute and Traffic Violations. He is being held on a $6,985.00 bond at this time.

Hopkins was taken to the Bibb County Jail and charged with Felony Fleeing and Eluding Peace Officer, Obstruction of Peace Officer, Reckless Driving, four counts of Failure to Stop at Stop Sign, Driving While Unlicensed and Operating a Moped Without a Helmet. He is being held on a $9,275.00 bond at this time.
