In response to a recent uptick of violence along the Houston Avenue corridor, The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office’s Gang Unit initiated a targeted enforcement action entitled Operation Southern Comfort. According to residents, this southern section of Macon-Bibb County had become an issue of concern, especially when the tranquility of the community was affected by unnecessary violence. One of the most notable acts of violence occurred on March 14, 2019, when 21yr old Deshafore Hicks was gunned down; his death being captured on Facebook Live.

Operation Southern Comfort took place from May 1st through May 5th, 2019 and focused on a 1.5 mile radius of the Houston Avenue corridor. During this effort, Bibb County Sheriff Office’s uniformed and plain clothes deputies worked the area.

Members of the Houston Ave community and the Sheriff’s office formed a unified partnership in an effort to make the Southside a safer place. As a result of this partnership, twenty-three arrests were made and one hundred and one citations were written. The arrest ranged from probation violation warrants, drug possession , theft by taking and theft by receiving. The citations ranged from traffic violations, maintaining a dive and 75 citations for being present in a dive.

During this operation, deputies arrested 23yr old Denyke Glenn who was wanted for the April 30, 2019 aggravated assault of 21yr old Shannon Williams at the American Best Value Inn located at 4951 Romeiser Road. Glenn was also wanted for an aggravated assault that occurred on April 22, 2019 at 3320 Houston Ave, Extraordinary Detailing, where Glenn fired shots at his own father who was not injured.

Glenn was out on bond from a February 9, 2017 armed robbery and aggravated assault of  25yr old Darius Rozier on Bloomfield Road. Glenn is currently being held at the Bibb Law Enforcement Center  with no bond for 2 counts of aggravated assault.
