In March of 2018, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit noticed a Gang Leadership, power struggle. This means that low risk offenders began to commit violent crimes in order to ascend the gang leadership ladder.

An internal and external investigation into known gang leaders, in particular, Jontellis Mathis, who is currently incarcerated in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Mathis was arrested in 2017 for the offense of Aggravated Assault, where he entered a local eatery and shot several patrons. Mathis was identified as the leader of the “Blacc Team”, which is a subsidiary of the Gangster Disciples.

While Mathis was being investigated, the Bibb Co. Sheriff’s Office Gang unit performed a sweep with the Corrections Division, at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Cell phones and other contraband items were confiscated.

The seizure of these cell phones lead to a joint collaboration with the Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This investigation was to be known as “Operation Blueprint.”

This operation has led to the identification and arrest of gang offenders and known associates.

On September 06, 2018, after an extensive investigation, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit, with the assistance from the Bibb Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit, Operation Neighborhood Redemption Unit, the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, and members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, executed several search warrants at various locations around Bibb County.

As a result of the warrants served, thirty- two people were arrested, twelve guns were seized, and one vehicle was impounded. Also, $21,891.00 in cash was seized, Ecstasy, with a street value of $4,300 and Marijuana with a street value of $22,500 were also seized during this operation.
