The Bibb Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious package just before 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. The package was found on Fifth Street near Oak Street off the roadway.

Bibb Sheriff’s Deputies closed off the area to any vehicle or foot traffic. The Bibb Sheriff’s Office Bomb Disposal Unit and Macon-Bibb Fire Department were notified by dispatch and both responded to the scene. The Bibb Sheriff’s Office Bomb Disposal Unit, using a robot, carefully examined the suspicious device which turned out to be a couple of old capacitors that were taped together, nothing else.  The capacitors looked old and rusted, and had possibly been lying there for a while. The package was removed by the Bomb Disposal Unit and the area was opened back up to all traffic at around 5:00 p.m.
