Bibb County Sheriff Office Investigators are working the death of an inmate in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. Just after 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, corrections deputies found a Bibb jail inmate unresponsive in his cell. Conditions in the cell indicate that the inmate hanged himself.
Life saving measures were provided until the inmate was transported to the Navicent Health Center hospital by ambulance. The inmate was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
An autopsy will be performed due to this being an in custody death. The incident is being investigated by Internal Affairs Investigators from the Bibb Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards. The inmate’s name and offense information will be released as soon as relatives are located and notified. Further information will be released as the investigation permits.
